Towson Bathroom Renovation
The owners of this Towson home had built the house several years ago. The original builder was not able to complete the work so the owners had to make certain sacrifices in order to complete the house.
About this Project
One room that was never completed to their satisfaction was the master bathroom. This Towson bathroom renovation included a new shower, tub, vanities, lighting, flooring and accessories. The shower was not appropriate, the tub was not at all what they wanted, the vanities were not user friendly and the lighting was not adequate for the size of the room. The owners wanted to update entire space, including changing out the shower window which turned out to be a fortuitous decision. With the exposure on two sides of the house, the room often was colder than the owners would like.
The owners wanted to keep the original floor plan as much as possible. They did not want to move walls as the room was more than large enough to accommodate their needs. American suggested custom cabinetry from Foxtail Millworks who designed and built the custom vanities. The owner and Foxtail worked together to design vanity cabinets that gave the look of custom furniture while also accommodating the storage needs of the owner. Kohler plumbing fixtures were selected for the faucets and tub. The shower was designed by American and the tile design the materials were selected by the owner as was the lighting. The bathroom floor and shower walls are all travertine selected and purchased from Capital Tile and Marble. American installed its waterproof BathPerfect system to all tile surfaces. In addition electric floor heating from NuHeat was installed. When removing the shower window American discovered that the wall and insulation below the window had been exposed to water for some time and needed to be completely rebuilt. While creating a slight delay, the work clearly had to be done (see photos).
