Founded in 1998, American Contracting Services, Inc. is a general contractor specializing in residential and commercial renovations.
In 2024 we celebrate our 26th year, operating out of our own building in Towson, just north of the Beltway. Our residential renovations include additions, in-law suites, kitchens, bathrooms, basements, garages and outdoor living spaces. We also specialize in the modification of homes to accommodate those looking to age in place or who have significant medical issues or disabilities. Our commercial division projects include adaptive reuse of existing spaces and renovations of existing buildings.
Our company has earned a solid reputation as an honest and reliable contractor. We have been awarded Remodeler of the Year Awards from the Maryland Improvement Contractors Association in various categories each year since 1999. In addition, we have held an A+ rating from the Maryland Better Business Bureau and an A rating from Angie’s List for years.
Our co-owners, Timothy Lanocha and W. Bruce Quackenbush, Jr., are active professionals in the remodeling industry.

Timothy Lanocha
As a child Timothy was introduced to the construction industry by working for his father. At first, he swept up construction sites and carried building materials. By the time he was 10 he had his first power saw. Soon he became adept at the use of multiple power
tools used in the field.
Ultimately, he became a master carpenter and, in 1998 started his own company, American Contracting Services. He has been in the industry for over 40 years. American Contracting is now celebrating its 26th year, a leader in the renovation industry.
Bruce Quackenbush
Bruce was appointed by the Governor in 2013 to the Maryland Home Improvement Commission, the agency that regulates the thousands of licensed contractors in the state. In November 2024 the Governor appointed him Commission Chairman.
He is the immediate Past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland. He is President of the Episcopal Housing Corporation, a non-profit organization that develops, owns and operates multi-million-dollar affordable housing projects in the Baltimore metropolitan area.
Kristin Durrence
Senior Project Manager
Kristin joined us in 2017 with seven years of previous construction experience. She began her career with us with dual roles as our bookkeeper and as one of our residential project managers. She is currently working to finish her bachelor’s degree in construction management.
Kristen Collins
Administrative Assistant
Kristen comes to us from her most recent position as Office Manager of a glass company based in Baltimore. As a life-long resident of Harford and Baltimore Counties she began her career in the kitchen at a well-known Harford County restaurant, Giovanni’s. After graduating from high school, she had increasing management responsibilities at Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union, serving as Head Teller, Senior Member Service Analyst and Manager, Loan Servicing before moving on to R.G. Collins Glass Co.
She loves hiking and boating with her husband and daughter.
Esther Lazo
Interior Designer
Esther joined us in September of 2023. She brings an extensive resume in interior design, working for design firms and manufacturing companies.
At American Contracting she works directly with our project managers, architects and clients to provide a variety of services.
She develops concept designs; construction documents and works with customers to make all the design selections from paint colors to tile to cabinets
Esther enjoys running marathons. She lives with her husband and daughter in Howard County.
